Setting Files and Folders preferences

The Files and Folders tab of the Max Preferences Window lets you set default locations for files that you use often while patching:

Whether saved patchers are automatically added to Max's search path.
The default folder locations for the location of Max for Live devices you load using the amxd~ external.
The default folder location for Max Projects.
The Patcher Template you want to use as the default for your patching environment.
The URL of a proxy server for maxurl and related web based features. This is useful for people with firewalls or other network settings that require proxy services for web access.

Add Patchers to the Search Path on Save

Choose Preferences from the Max menu to display the Preferences Window. Click on the All tab to display the complete Files and Folders tab.
By default, Patcher files saved in Max will be automatically added to the Search Path and visible in the File Browser, regardless of their location on your hard drive. Unset the checkbox labelled Add Patchers to Search Path on Save to disable this behavior (returning to the behavior of Max 6 and earlier versions).
Patchers will never be added to the Search Path if:
- they are already in the search path or in Max's documents folder
- they are in a Project folder

Click on the Choose button in the Inspector open a file dialog, and navigate to the location you want to use as your default location. When you type return, the location will be displayed and the location set.

Click on the Value column for the Default Patcher Template setting and choose a template file from the drop-down menu. The menu contains a listing of default templates and template files you have created.
The template you select will automatically be loaded each time you start a new Max patcher.

By default, all dependency paths will be saved with patches that contain dependencies. Uncheck the box labelled Save Dependency Paths to disable this behavior.

Enter in a URL to use as a proxy service for web access. This is used by objects such as maxurl as well as other web-enabled Max functions (such as the advanced search functions).
